This morning - bright and early at 8 a.m. - we picked up our group at the hotel and headed over the the town hall for breakfast.
At 9 a.m. the bus arrived to take us on the “Base Tour”. We went zig-zag over the whole place, driving into any space that wasn’t fenced in. We were able to go into one of the buildings that are still being used as offices. There we got to scrutinise a map of the “Base”. One of the ladies working there also arranged for us to actually go into the tower to visit the meteorologist - and get a bird’s eye view of the runway. While we were there we ordered sun for the whole reunion - and we got it! Thank you!!!
We continued our tour towards “Koblenz Gate” through the security area - out of the gate and through Raversbeuren and Lötzbeuren back to the town hall for lunch.
After lunch, we headed off for Stipshausen to take a look at the historic church. We continued on to “Baldenau” (Hinzerath) and Morbach. After a stop at the “Belginum” museum, we travelled on to Simmern for a stroll through the pedestrian zone or a stop at the museum there. The highlight of the stop in Simmern was actually seeing the window to my office ;-))
When we got back, my husband Udo, cooked up a fantastic Schwenkbraten for us - a local specialty of a pork steak grilled on a “swinging grill”. Hmmmm. Good.
I think my group was tired - by 10:30 p.m. they were back at the hotel...
